The Apprentice Program
The heart and soul of the Old Brick Playhouse, the Apprentice Program has been growing the next generation of young artists and performers for over thirty years! The program focuses on self-esteem building, mentoring, improvisation, public presentation, and of course, acting and the dramatic arts. Once operating on a yearly schedule, the program now exists in two sessions per year - one in the Fall and one in the Spring - seeing about 40 students per session, and historically boasting over 3,000 alumni. Each session culminates in a full-fledged performance that consistently sells out for its entire week-long run! More so than that, however, this ragtag band during the course of the program becomes much more; as one apprentice would put it "we became a family back stage".
Our All-New Format!
This season, we’re bringing back a favorite format that allows us to spend even more meaningful one-on-one time with our students!
Monday rehearsals will continue to include the entire Apprentice Company, just as before, providing opportunities for everyone to learn, collaborate, and form a tribe. Thursdays, however, will take on a new and exciting structure after the first few weeks. Rather than calling the full enrollment each week, we will schedule smaller, focused groups to work on specific songs, scenes, choreography, and costume elements. This approach allows for more individualized attention, deeper artistic development, and more fun!
To make planning easy, a complete schedule will be distributed on the first day of Apprentices, so everyone will know exactly when they are needed. Keep Thursday’s free because you may be needed most weeks.
The Apprentice Program is for students grades 6 through 12. Spring meetings begin Monday, August 24th at 3:30pm until 5:30pm, and occur generally every Monday and Thursday at the same, with a more specific rehearsal calendar provided once the program starts.
